In a Qatari summer, the temperature gauge is the most important dial in your car. The difference between saving an engine and paying for a complete rebuild is usually decided in the first minute: an engine switched off early survives in most cases — the one that “finishes the trip” pays the price.
The first 60 seconds: do and do not

Why engines overheat, in realistic order
Low coolant from a leak — the most common: a hose, expansion tank, radiator, or a silently weeping pump. A thermostat stuck closed, trapping the coolant. Cooling fans not working — you notice this in traffic specifically, while the car “cools down” at speed. A tired water pump. And in heavier cases, the head gasket — by which point early diagnosis has usually been missed.

It overheated once. Is it over?
Not necessarily, but never treat it as trivial: one strong overheat can leave a silent mark, such as a head gasket starting to breathe. A post-overheat inspection includes system pressure testing and checking for exhaust gases in the coolant — early detection saves you a great deal.
